The Nebraska State Fair has signed MercyMe for the Thursday, August 30th Christian Concert for the 2012 State Fair.  According to State Fair Events and Entertainment Director Chelsey Jungck, “MercyMe has released a total of 17 albums since its formation in 1994—four of which have been certified gold.”

Jungck says, “The group has won a total of eight Dove Awards and has a number of Grammy nominations.  Their Dove awards were for such hits as “I Can Only Imagine,” “Word of God Speak” as well as Artists of the Year, and Group of the Year honors.”

The group’s name, “MercyMe” came about when lead singer Bart Millard’s grandmother would find Bart at home when she called.  She would always say, “Well mercy me, why don’t you get a real job?”  Jungck says, “The group’s “real job” has been a tremendous success in contemporary Christian music.”

The MercyMe concert is free. Wristbands for MercyMe do not include gate admission and will be available at the Heartland Events Center Box Office on Thursday, August 30, at noon, on a first come/first serve basis.

The Nebraska State Fair runs from August 24^th through September 3^rd at Fonner Park in Grand Island.
