The Nebraska State Fair is an annual, 11-day, event that is held at the end of August through early September, ending on Labor Day. The fair is held at Fonner Park in Grand Island, NE, following a recent move from its previous host city of 109 years, Lincoln, NE.
In 2008, the Nebraska Legislature voted to move The Nebraska State Fair to Grand Island. Groundbreaking for construction at the Grand Island site occurred in July of 2009. The 2009 Fair was the last Fair held in Lincoln. In just thirteen months, The Nebraska State Fair sorted through 109 years of accumulated items, constructed seven new buildings, moved 90 miles to the west, and planned the 2010 Fair. The 2010 Nebraska State Fair was the first Fair held in the new host city of Grand Island. The Nebraska State Fair has now celebrated two successful Fairs at the new fairgrounds. The 2010 and 2011 Fairs have been amongst the highest ranked fairs, in terms of quality and customer satisfaction, in the Fair's history.
The Nebraska State Fair does not own the land in which the Fair is held. It occupies and maintains the fairgrounds for just two months out of the year (August and September). In preparation for the fair, The Nebraska State Fair staff moves onto the fairgrounds 30 days before the event and transforms the area into a venue unlike any other in the state. The Fair is held for 11 days, ending on Labor Day. The remainder of September is used for clean-up.
The Nebraska State Fair offers insights into the unique culture of Nebraska. It is built on 143 years of tradition. It showcases the talent, products and people of Nebraska. Nebraskans can come together to experience the latest technological advancements in agriculture, first-class entertainment and the most delectable and extraordinary food the state has to offer.
